I was terrible with money for most of my college career. One of the excuses I made for myself was that I didn’t have a regular income. How could I be expected to stick to a plan when my paychecks varied dramatically month to month?
“It’ll be better when I graduate. I’ll be on salary and then this will be easier.”
I’m on salary. I have been since 2015. I’ve never seen two identical paychecks. Even on salary, the variability of work and life cause my paycheck to vary month to month.
Income is half the equation.
And maybe the smaller half. Spending is the other. You may not control your income directly, but you have absolute power over what you choose to spend. When your spending exceeds your income, you have an issue. It’s not sustainable.
How can we make a plan?
Zoom out. Take a look at your expenses and income on an annual basis. Then you’ll be able to decide how much you can spend and how much you should save day to day.
Sounds complicated.
It’s not. In truth what you’ll need to do is prioritize. And that’s where our workshop, Midterm Rehab, can help. We’ll take you step by step through the planning process and get you back in control of your money. I know how stressful it can be, wondering if you’ve got enough to make it. There’s hope.
Midterm Rehab is a short workshop that helps college students get in control of their time, money, and career. It’ll guide you through the budgeting process even if you have a wildly variable income.
But it’s only available in March, 2018. Head over to www.intentionalacademy.com or email rehab@intentionalacademy.com to get started!
